OXFORD, Ohio -- The talented duo of Zac Dysert (Ada) and Nick Harwell (Missouri City, TX) sparkled during Friday's scrimmage at Yager Stadium as Miami University wrapped up its fourth week of spring football drills.
In a controlled scrimmage, Dysert completed 21-of-29 passes for 288 yards, while Harwell caught eight balls for 156 yards.
Other top statistical producers included receivers Andy Cruse (Cincinnati) who had four catches for 37 yards and one TD, Luke Swift (Greenwood, IN) with three catches for 37 yards and one TD, and J.J. Greenwood (Middletown) with three catches for 40 yards and one TD.
Walk-on running back ROBERT WILLIAMS carried the ball 13 times for 55 yards to lead all ball carriers.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Drew Kummer (Cincinnati) completed nine of his 13 passes for 39 yards.
Defensively, cornerback Dayonne Nunley (Monroeville, PA) had an interception, blocked a field goal attempt, and notched numerous tackles.
Placekicker Mason Krysinski (Shelby Township, MI) had field goals of 34, 35 and 39 yards.
Head coach Don Treadwell pointed out the momentum switches in Friday's scrimmage.
"Early in the game, the offense came out with a little juice and rhythm," he said. "The defense kept hanging in there and you could see the momentum shift after it forced a turnover. Football is a game of momentum. Obviously, I'm impartial to both sides. I'm excited when the offense is driving the ball and glad to see the defense step up when it needs to. We look for attitude and effort, and those things are there."
Treadwell has been impressed by the continued improvement of Dysert, his senior signal caller.
"Zac does a great job of keeping his composure to find his receivers when there's pressure," he said. "He'll slide into the pocket or he can run the ball. Zac's improved footwork is due in great part to the things he's learned from Coach (Mike) Bath."
Treadwell, a walk-on himself back in the late 1970s, likes what he's seen from non-scholarship runner Robert Williams.
"Robert definitely feels more comfortable," he said. "He's a walk-on who realizes he has an opportunity to contribute."
Defensively, Treadwell was happy to see Nunley, his veteran cornerback, perform well.
"Dayonne knows that he needs to be a leader in the secondary," said Treadwell. "He showed today that he has the physical tools to change a game."
Miami's annual Red & White Game will be played next Saturday (April 28) at Yager Stadium. There is no admission charge for the contest that begins at 12 noon.
