MAC ANNOUNCES 2011 FOOTBALL ACADEMIC ALL-MAC TEAM
Cleveland, Ohio - Miami University football's Anthony Kokal (Warren) and Mason Krysinski (Shelby Township, MI) are among 35 student-athletes named to the Mid-American Conference's 2011 Football Academic All-MAC Team.
Kokal, who earned his Master's degree in accountancy last month, earned his fourth varsity letter this past season. Krysinski was the RedHawks' starting placekicker and kickoff man in 2011, earning his second letter.
Miamians Brad Bednar (Mentor), Pat Hinkel (Westlake), Jason Semmes (Clarkston, MI) and Joseph Williams (Houston, TX) earned honorable mention Academic All-MAC laurels.
Eastern Michigan topped the 2011 Academic All-MAC squad with six selections, followed by Northern Illinois with five selections. Central Michigan and Toledo each had four honorees. Ball State, Kent State, and Western Michigan each had three selections. Buffalo and Miami both placed two on the team. Akron, Ohio and Temple rounded out the selections.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The remaining student-athletes have been recognized as Academic Honorable Mention selections.
