Coach MICHAEL HAYWOOD'S Miami RedHawks (0-5) hit the road for the fifth time in their first six games for a game against Big Ten foe Northwestern (3-2) at Evanston.

1. MICHAEL HAYWOOD aims for his first victory as head coach of the RedHawks.
2. The cumulative record of Miami's first five opponents is 16-8. Two foes, Boise State (5-0) and Cincinnati (5-0), are ranked sixth and eighth, respectively, in this week's AP poll.
3. In his two starts, redshirt freshman quarterback Zac Dysert is averaging 311.5 yards passing per game. He threw for 337 yards against Kent State and followed up that performance with a 286-yard effort against 10th-ranked Cincinnati.
4. Miami's football team plays on the road for the fifth time in its first six games of 2009 when it travels to Evanston, Illinois to play Northwestern.
PREVIEWING NORTHWESTERN: Northwestern, a charter member of the Big Ten Conference, enters Saturday's game against Miami with a 3-2 record following its 27-21 victory at Purdue on Oct. 3. Coach Pat Fitzgerald's Wildcats are averaging nearly 32 points and 396 offensive yards per game. Quarterback Mike Kafka is the key, completing 70 percent of his passes for 1,273 yards and five touchdowns. The quartet of Zeke Markshausen (29 recs. for 280 yards), Drake Dunsmore (21-232, 1 TD), Demetrius Field (17-148, 1 TD) and Andrew Brewer (15-280, 3 TD) has caught most of Kafka's passes. Arby Fields (3.9 ypa) and Stephen Simmons (4.8) are NU's top runners. Another offensive weapon is placekicker Stefan Demos (8-8 FG, 16-17 PAT), whose longest field goal is a 49-yarder. Defensively, Quentin Davie (39 tackles), Brendan Smith (31) and Brad Phillips (30) lead the way.
SERIES HISTORY: It's the ninth all-time match-up between Miami and Northwestern. The RedHawks lead the series by a margin of 6-2 and are 6-1 in games at Evanston. In the teams' last confrontation in 2006 the Wildcats topped the RedHawks, 21-3.

Miami's offensive unit has rolled up impressive yardage over its last three games (vs. WMU, KSU and UC), compiling 1,289 total yards on 248 plays (5.2 ypp, 429.7 ypg). In its first two contests of 2009 (vs. Kentucky and Boise State), the RedHawks plodded along at 191 yards per game and 3.2 yards per play. In terms of first downs, Miami's 27 against Western Michigan three weeks ago and 26 two weeks ago at Kent State are the second- and fourth-best totals, respectively, among MAC teams in 2009.
