Miami University vs. Kent State University
September 16, 2006
Yager Stadium - Oxford, Ohio
Team Notes:
- In the 54th meeting between Miami and Kent State, the Golden Flashes ended a four-game losing streak versus the RedHawks and won in Oxford for the first time since 1988.
- Kent State's 16-yard touchdown pass from Julian Edelman to Najah Pruden at 1:58 in the first quarter marked the first points allowed by Miami's defense in the opening quarter this season.
- Miami was blanked in the first half for the second time in three games this season and still has not scored a first-half touchdown in 2006.
- Miami's 96 yards of penalties were the most since it amassed 125 yards of penalties in last season's win over Cincinnati.
- Two more Miami freshmen made their debuts on the day, as redshirt freshman Travis Craven and true freshman Martin Channels saw time at defensive end and defensive tackle, respectively. A total of 15 true and redshirt freshmen have made their debuts as regulars in Miami's lineup this season.
Individual Notes:
- Junior tailback Brandon Murphy, a 2005 second-team all-MAC pick, made his first appearance of 2006, earning the start and rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
- Sophomore linebacker Clayton Mullins intercepted a pass for the second straight week, picking off Julian Edelman in Kent State territory late in the third quarter and setting up Miami's first score of the game.
- Mike Kokal completed 20-of-35 passes for 167 yards and recorded his first career rushing touchdown on the day. He was intercepted once.
- Following Brandon Murphy's third-quarter touchdown run, Sean McVay hauled in a Mike Kokal pass to complete Miami's first two-point conversion of the season and first overall since a 2004 loss at Marshall.
- Miami had its entire starting offensive line available to start the game for the first time this season but neither left tackle Charlie Norden nor right guard Matt McKeown were able to finish.
- Senior Ryne Robinson extended his string of consecutive games with a reception to 33 straight games but had a season-low eight receptions for 61 yards, marking the first time this season he was held under 100 yards. He totaled three receptions on Miami's final drive, including two on critical fourth down conversions.
