Miami Comes up Short at WKU, 79-60

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Enjulina Gonzalez and Amber Tretter combined for 39 points, but it wasn't enough as the Miami women's basketball team fell 79-60 at Western Kentucky on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops Miami to 4-2 on the season, while WKU improves to 7-0.
 
How it Happened:
  • Amber Tretter converted a three-point play to knot the game at 3-3, but WKU answered with a 10-0 run and led 13-3 with four minutes to play in the first. A Tretter layup ended the drought, but the Hilltoppers scored five quick points to force a Glenn Box timeout. WKU led 23-8 after 10 minutes of play.
  • Miami opened the second quarter on a 12-7 run, with help from five points from Tretter and a triple from Enjulina Gonzalez to make it 30-20 midway through the quarter. Following the media timeout, WKU scored four-straight, but a layup from Tamar Singer, a triple from Enjulina Gonzalez and a free throw from Tretter cut the deficit, 34-26. WKU answered with a pair of free throws before Lakresha Edwards hit a step-back three-pointer to trail 36-29. The Hilltoppers led 38-29 at the half.
  • The Hilltoppers opened the second half on a 19-12 run and pushed their advantage to 57-38 with five minutes left in the third quarter. The Hilltoppers run continued following the media timeout, claiming a 74-44 lead after three quarters of play. Enjulina Gonzalez scored 11 points in the quarter and WKU was a perfect 8-of-8 from behind the arc.
  • Miami outscored the Hilltoppers 16-5 in the final stanza, but it wasn't enough for the Red and White.
  
Game Notes:
  • Enjulina Gonzalez scored a career-best 20 points as a member of the RedHawks. She added a career-best six rebounds.
  • Tamar Singer recorded a career-high six assists.
  • Miami had nine different players score on Sunday afternoon.
