RedHawks Fall to Ohio, 3-0

OXFORD, Ohio—The Miami University volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Ohio University on Friday night at Millett Hall, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25. The RedHawks drop to 7-7 on the season and in Mid-American Conference play, while the Bobcats move to 6-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first set was back and forth through the early goings. Ohio took an 18-15 lead, but a kill and service ace from junior Gaby Harper along with a kill by freshman Abby Stratford knotted the set, 18-18. The Bobcats pushed ahead to 22-19, but a kill from junior Sophie Riemersma and a senior Sarah Wojick service ace evened things, 22-22. Ohio outscored Miami 3-1 down the stretch to take the first set, 25-23.
  • The Bobcats took a 19-13 lead in the second set, but Miami chiseled away to close within 22-20 with help from a pair of Riemersma kills. That was as close as Miami would get as the Bobcats took the second set, 25-21.
  • The teams traded punches early in the third set. Ohio used a 5-1 spurt to take a 14-9 lead midway through the set. A kill and service ace from Harper helped Miami close within 20-18. The Bobcats extended their lead to 23-19, but Miami again closed the gap to two off kills by sophomore Allyson Severance and senior Avarie Powell, 23-21. Miami staved off match point with a Powell kill to again close within two, 24-22, but the Bobcats clinched the match with a 25-22 set three win.
