BERKELEY, Calif. - The field hockey team's Northern California trip continued Sunday with a dominating 8-0 win over Pacific. Mary Hull, Kate Snyder and Jackie Nguyen each scored two goals for the RedHawks. Miami improves to 2-0 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 0-2.

Hull got things started for the RedHawks less than three minutes into the game when she deflected in a goal off of Nguyen's shot. Nguyen was able to record her first tally of the day in the 20th minute off of a penalty corner. A little over a minute later, Snyder and Hull worked a 2-on-1 break perfectly as Snyder beat the goalie to send Miami into the half with a 3-0 lead.

"Our team actually came out a little conservative to begin the game," said head coach Jill Reeve. "But as we grew into the game we began to start moving stronger."

The RedHawks continued the offensive pressure early in the second half. In the 38th minute, Brittany Branco scored her first goal of the season off of a penalty corner. Hull and Brightwell each added their respective second goals of the game in the 42nd minute. Miami concluded the scoring with a goal by Christine Brightwell in the 60th minute and another penalty corner goal by Snyder in the 64th minute.

Reeve was especially happy with the last 15 minutes of the game, which featured mostly reserves on the field.

"It was nice to see our non-starting unit come into the game late and show they could perform," said Reeve.

While the offense was rolling for the RedHawks, the defense was equally up to the task on Sunday. Miami held Pacific to only four shots the entire game, two of which were on goal. Sarah Mueller was able to stop both of them to pick up her first career shutout. The RedHawks outshot the Tigers 23-4 for the game.

Miami has one more game remaining in Berkeley as it will take on UC Davis tomorrow in a neutral site game at 3 p.m. (EDT).
