OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's three-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon as the Ohio University Bobcats (3-5, 2-0 MAC) scored off four penalty corners and downed the RedHawks (4-5, 1-1 MAC), 4-2.
Miami opened the scoring at the 31:00 mark when sophomore Taylor Florence (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) converted a corner from the left side of the circle off a pass from sophomore Meghan McMurtry (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos). The goal, Florence's team-leading fourth of the year, gave the RedHawks a lead that wouldn't last long.
The Bobcats responded less than two minutes later as sister's Rachelle and Estienne Coetzee teamed up to even the score on a beautiful tip play from the right post. Just over seven minutes later, the duo found the back of the cage again, with Estienne scoring her second goal of the game on a play nearly identical to her first goal.
Amanda Arnold gave Ohio a 3-1 lead in the game's 53rd minute when she banged home the rebound of a shot by Rachelle Coetzee, who finished the game with one goal and a trio of assists.
Sophomore Alyssa Nye (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken) cut Ohio's lead in half in the 64th minute when she tipped in a shot from the top of the circle by Florence. With less than three minutes to play, Nye nearly tied the contest as she broke in on goal from the right side. Her shot found its way past Ohio goaltender Jennifer Cote, but caromed off the left post and out of harm's way.
Rachelle Coetzee added an insurance marker for Ohio as time expired, converting off a corner from the left of the circle.
Senior Kerri Orr (San Diego, Calif./Serra) made four saves in goal for Miami, while her counterpart turned away seven shots.
The RedHawks outshot the Bobcats, 16-13, while Ohio held the advantage in penalty corners, 13-10.
NOTES: Miami returns to action on Sept. 30, with a 2 p.m. start at Central Michigan.
