Box Score

OXFORD, Ohio--Miami University's volleyball team dropped a 23-30, 30-25, 28-30, 23-30 decision to Bowling Green (15-11; 7-6 Mid-American Conference) on Thursday evening to fall to 15-9 overall and 8-5 in MAC action.

Miami opened up with a 5-3 lead in the first game with help from kills by sophomore outside hitter Kate Norris (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard), sophomore outside hitter Jeanna Staun (Loveland, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and freshman middle hitter Emily Schroeder (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard). Two Stephanie Swiger kills and a block by Swiger and Chrissy Gothke spurred Bowling Green as the Falcons charged to 14-9 lead. BGSU pushed its lead to nine points, the last at 25-16, before the RedHawks staged a 6-0 run with help from blocks by Schroeder/Staun and Norris and junior middle hitter Lauren Slusser (Columbus Grove, Ohio/Columbus Grove) to close within three of the Falcons, 22-25. A Norris kill would be Miami's only other point as the Falcons went on to collect the 30-23 game-one win.

In the second game, Miami took the lead from the onset and did not look back. Two kills apiece from Staun and Schroeder helped the RedHawks gain a 10-6 lead. A Swiger kill for the Falcons would put Bowling Green within one of the RedHawks, 15-14, but Miami went on a 5-0 run, sparked by a senior setter Megan Clark (Solon, Ohio/Solon) service ace. BGSU would close within two points, three more times, the last coming at 23-21, but a block by sophomore middle hitter Carli Reihman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and Clark would ice the second game for the RedHawks, 30-25.

It was a tight battle throughout in the third game with 10 ties in the set. No team led by more than three points until Bowling Green took a 29-25 lead off an Emily Manser kill. Reihman knocked down back-to-back kills and teamed up with Staun on a block to pull the RedHawks within one, 28-29. A kill by Kendra Halm, however, clinched the third game for the Falcons, 30-28.

With 23 digs, senior libero Suzy Wolford (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) recorded her ninth 20-plus dig outing of the season.

For Miami, Norris had 16 kills, while Schroeder tallied 14 kills and four blocks and Reihman had 13 kills, 11 digs and five blocks. Staun added 12 kills, while Clark notched 60 assists.

Bowling Green was led by Halm with 22 kills and Manser with 24 digs.

Miami hits the road for its final MAC regular-season road contest when it plays at Northern Illinois at 7:05 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, Nov. 5.
